\"heart-shaped-breakfast\"Something a little different today for the blog, getting a little nostalgic, and it’s a V-Day themed idea! \u00a0I recalled a childhood memory\u00a0of my mom\u00a0using\u00a0those pancake\/egg rings<\/a> in multiple shapes to cook with. \u00a0I’m sure I realized it then, and as\u00a0I think about it now, it’s a very\u00a0cute thing to do and makes basic meals\u00a0suddenly really fun and special without having to become a master chef. \u00a0It’s the little things, as always.\u00a0 So if it’s your own kids, family, him, or her you’re trying to smother with love this Valentine’s Day, try incorporating these easy DIY techniques\u00a0for turning your favorite\u00a0brunch items into\u00a0heart shapes.<\/p>\n

Heart-Shaped Eggs<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Story time. \u00a0Every Thursday, I go to the same farmer’s market to get 18 farm fresh eggs because they changed my life. \u00a0That orange yolk is so rich and bomb. \u00a0Nothing else I’ve tried is as good, and ever since I discovered them almost two years ago I’ve been eating them\u00a0pretty much every day for breakfast. \u00a0I’m that type of person who’s totally cool with eating the same thing every day if it’s this good, so when we’re talking about making a favorite brunch, these eggs are mandatory for us.<\/p>\n

I used a heart-shaped cookie cutter<\/a> sprayed with cooking oil along the inner edge and placed it on an oiled pan at medium heat. \u00a0I cracked the egg directly into the mold and used a spoon to move and hold the yolk in the center. \u00a0After the egg cooks a little, the yolk will stay. \u00a0Any egg white that seeps through the bottom of the mold can just be cut off later. \u00a0Once cooked, I removed the mold with tongs and then scooped the egg onto a plate.<\/p>\n

Salt and peppered with a side of thick-cut bacon and a cup of coffee = our perfect breakfast right there, we can stop now, but ok there’s a couple more ideas.<\/p>\n

Heart-Shaped Fruit<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Some friends for\u00a0those pancakes.<\/p>\n

\"cuttingCut off the green top of the strawberry in a V shape, then diagonally\u00a0slice a little\u00a0off the left and right sides to create the heart shape.<\/p>\n

Turn the strawberry on its side and slice it.<\/p>\n

\"cuttingYou can do the same with bananas. \u00a0Bonus: eat the scraps as you go, ok?<\/p>\n

Powdered Sugar Heart<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Heart-shaped pancakes can for sure be made using the same tools we used for\u00a0the eggs, but after seeing the heart detail for this cocktail<\/a>, I thought it was too cute not to try something similar.\"paperFold a piece of card stock in half and draw half a heart. \u00a0Cut along the line to create this heart cut-out.<\/p>\n

Center the heart on top of the pancake and tap\u00a0powdered sugar over it using a strainer.<\/p>\n

Remove the paper very careful upwards so that the heart doesn’t\u00a0get smudged.<\/p>\n

Do this right before serving because the heat from the pancake will melt the sugar (lesson learned).<\/p>\n
