{"id":17330,"date":"2017-06-01T05:00:30","date_gmt":"2017-06-01T12:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/?p=17330"},"modified":"2017-06-01T10:25:14","modified_gmt":"2017-06-01T17:25:14","slug":"one-day-chicago","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/one-day-chicago\/","title":{"rendered":"One Day in Chicago"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17375 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Buckingham-Fountain-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1504\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Buckingham-Fountain-5.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Buckingham-Fountain-5-400x501.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Buckingham-Fountain-5-768x963.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Buckingham-Fountain-5-724x907.jpg 724w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 1362px) 62vw, 840px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Chicago is one of my favorite places\u00a0being that I spent the first 18 years of my life here. \u00a0It&#8217;s also where O grew up, where we met, and where some of our family and friends still live, so it&#8217;s guaranteed we make at least a yearly trip back. \u00a0The majority of our plans usually involve hanging out with family in the suburbs, but we also make sure\u00a0to reserve one day for going to the city (yup, like Ferris Bueller&#8217;s day off with maybe more of a design-minded itinerary, ha.) \u00a0Visiting some favorite spots and adding on some new ones each time we go, here&#8217;s what we did the last time we spent\u00a0one day in Chicago, in partnership with <a href=\"http:\/\/ubr.to\/2rcbPIj\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Uber<\/a> which we relied on to get around city.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>We very heavily depend on using Uber whenever we travel or when we know parking is going to be a PAIN. \u00a0In a city like Chicago where parking fees\u00a0are generally steep and spots can be hard to find, driving your own car is not ideal. \u00a0It&#8217;s a very walkable city, but since Chicago is comprised of many neighborhoods, you won&#8217;t be able to cover many of them by foot, especially in one day. \u00a0Chicago does have a great metro system, but with so much we wanted to do in limited time, having an <a href=\"http:\/\/ubr.to\/2rc7HrP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UberX<\/a> pick up and drop us off exactly where we needed to go was the best option\u00a0while still being affordable.<\/p>\n<p>The best time to visit is Spring or early Fall. \u00a0We call it a joke whenever we say Chicago suffers through six months of winter but it&#8217;s not a joke, it&#8217;s just true. \u00a0The weather can be a monster but when it&#8217;s good, it&#8217;s <em>amazing. \u00a0<\/em>We went this Spring and prioritized taking advantage of the good weather. \u00a0Had the weather been bad, we for sure would have visited one of the many museums Chicago is so famous for, but this trip was about being outside as much as possible! \u00a0Here&#8217;s\u00a0everywhere we went:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17357 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/3-Arts-Cafe-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/3-Arts-Cafe-2.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/3-Arts-Cafe-2-400x533.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/3-Arts-Cafe-2-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/3-Arts-Cafe-2-680x907.jpg 680w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 1362px) 62vw, 840px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>3 Arts Club Cafe<\/strong>&#8211; A cafe inside the Restoration Hardware store in Gold Coast and one of the most beautiful\u00a0restaurant interiors I&#8217;ve seen, look at this garden courtyard!!\u00a0 I&#8217;ve heard there&#8217;s usually a wait, but we got here right when they opened and had no problem getting a table. \u00a0I wouldn&#8217;t have minded a short wait anyway since this is a Restoration Hardware store and the surrounding rooms are gorgeous to walk through.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17358 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/3-Arts-Cafe-brunch-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/3-Arts-Cafe-brunch-2.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/3-Arts-Cafe-brunch-2-400x533.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/3-Arts-Cafe-brunch-2-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/3-Arts-Cafe-brunch-2-680x907.jpg 680w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 1362px) 62vw, 840px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I also would have been fine if the food wasn&#8217;t great since the place was so pretty, but the food was GREAT. \u00a0The thing\u00a0you cannot miss is that little plate of giant bacon. \u00a0O and I agreed it was the best bacon we&#8217;ve ever had. \u00a0They get the bacon\u00a0from <strong>Green Street Smoked Meats<\/strong>\u00a0(go there\u00a0if you&#8217;re in West Loop!) and prepare it here. \u00a0I don&#8217;t remember all the steps the waiter shared about how it&#8217;s prepared except for the part about how they coat it with maple syrup. \u00a0It&#8217;s ridiculous.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17359 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/architectural-boat-tour-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/architectural-boat-tour-2.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/architectural-boat-tour-2-400x533.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/architectural-boat-tour-2-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/architectural-boat-tour-2-680x907.jpg 680w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 1362px) 62vw, 840px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Architectural Boat Tour<\/strong>&#8211; About a 10-15 minute <a href=\"http:\/\/ubr.to\/2rbNlPb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Uber<\/a> ride from breakfast to get to the\u00a0<strong>Wendella<\/strong>\u00a0dock, which is the boat tour company I go with every time. \u00a0Whenever anyone visiting Chicago for the first time asks me what to do, I passionately recommend the Architectural Boat Tour. \u00a0It&#8217;s a quick way to see a lot\u00a0of the city from a really unique perspective on the Chicago River. \u00a0You&#8217;ll learn some history about Chicago\u00a0and it&#8217;s a beautifully relaxing way to spend time outside. \u00a0Wear sunscreen and sunglasses. \u00a0I did neither and regretted it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Millennium Park<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0It&#8217;s a short walk from the boat dock and we always come here after the boat tour. \u00a0The <strong>Cloud Gate<\/strong> is here along with a great view of the skyline. \u00a0Lots of great people watching and scenic walking. \u00a0If you keep walking south you can also visit <strong>Buckingham Fountain<\/strong> (first\u00a0photo of this post).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17360 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/cindys-rooftop-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/cindys-rooftop-2.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/cindys-rooftop-2-250x250.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/cindys-rooftop-2-100x100.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/cindys-rooftop-2-400x400.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/cindys-rooftop-2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/cindys-rooftop-2-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/cindys-rooftop-2-907x907.jpg 907w, https:\/\/www.homeyohmy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/cindys-rooftop-2-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 1362px) 62vw, 840px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cindy&#8217;s Rooftop<\/strong>&#8211;
